Multiple worlds collide with IBM presentation

Thursday, September 20th, 2007

Many of us have just been at a virtual world presentation by Sandra Kearney, Director of IBM’s 3d internet group and very much a founding member of eightbar and the virtual universe community.
I am going to pull some of the content together to show what this actually looked like but….
We have Sandy in Cornell speaking [...]

More art in virtual worlds. AM Radio rocks.

Thursday, September 20th, 2007

Back in July I shared Robbie Dingo’s beautiful ‘Watch the World(s)’ machinima. Today I was equally blown away by some of AM Radio’s amazing creations, captured as a video by Aeron Copeland.  Both are Eightbar members and long-time explorers and builders in Second Life.

There’s not much I can add to that, other than “wow”. [...]

It does not have to be photo realistic to work

Thursday, September 20th, 2007

Ben and Jerry’s Ice Cream have a great new build in Second Life. I only just got to visit it.
It just goes to show that, as has been found with going cell shaded in games, photo realism is not everything. It is of course good to have both cartoon and photo real options, but the [...]

Make Love, not Warcraft

Tuesday, September 11th, 2007

I recently discovered that Comedy Central’s video clips can be embedded. This is a great chance to remember (or discover) the Warcraft Southpark episode, now nearly a year old.

I am socialising, artard! I’m logged on to an MMORPG with people from all over the world and getting XP with my party using TeamSpeak.

Getting everywhere, even New York with fast cars

Saturday, September 8th, 2007

I could not help moving eightbar into yet another virtual environment. In this case Forza2 on the xbox 360.
Forza has a great custom paint application built in. You cant just upload images, you have to craft from clip art. I am by no means an expert, but I was quite happy with me representing eightbar [...]

Even more virtual to real life

Monday, September 3rd, 2007

I turned 40 this weekend as part of the celebrations this rather excellent creation was made by a local shop.
Its not as “serious” as many of the virtual to real movements but it seemed worth sharing with everyone.

Just for completeness the thread of these is explained here and here
