Writing a guide is one thing, it will be useful to some people and for a certain period of time. However, these thing are more often than not left without updates. In the world of Linux and open source that means they're outdated usually very quickly, so the challenge here isn't writing the guide but more keeping it up to date.

I have played around with Ubuntu linux in the last 12 months and I have been really impressed with it - although primarily for use on a very old (pentium 100mhz) machine as a file server. I haven't used it for wireless connections.

Ubuntu has a 6 month release cycle and is very easy to use. Check it out - perhaps the best way to try it is using a virtual machine.
