Just an update, we've moved libsecondlife to its own domain at http://www.libsecondlife.org and you can find the wiki at http://www.libsecondlife.org/protocol/

We are working now to get a Second Life object importer working with libsecondlife and using prim.blender outputs.

[...] They are also aware of and even supporting the effort to reverse engineer the SL client protocol, which is pretty cool. Would be cooler if they documented it in a non-XOR-encrypted form of course …. [...]

Sign up for the libsecondlife-dev mailing list at http://gna.org/projects/libsecondlife/ to keep track of current libsecondlife efforts and latest releases. We've come really far on this and some cool things are being built with it right now.

oo my first "whats next" suggestion is partially here...

lslint is a tool to check the syntactic and semantic validity of LSL scripts. It is basically a compiler that doesn't compile, but has helpful error messages, warnings, and checks for some common problems in LSL. It is mainly for use with an external editor.
